Lips:
- If you don't want to go out and buy a lip scrub, make your own! It's easy!! All you need is olive oil, honey (equal parts) and sugar. The mixture shouldn't be very thick. Rub this on your lips in circles, but don't press too hard otherwise your lips will get really raw. I keep mine in the fridge for about a week before making a new one. *I also add a drop of lemon juice for flavor
- Don't feel like making a lip scrub? Your tooth brush can help with that. When you are brushing your teeth gently brush your lips in circular motions. This will remove some of your excess dead skin.
- Lather up before you go to bed. I keep a container of Carmex next to my bed and put some on right before I go to sleep. When you aren't talking/eating the balm really has a chance to soak in and I wake up in the morning with softer lips!
- Wash off all of your make up before you really deep clean your face, otherwise your cleanser won't deep clean like you want it to!
- Only exfoliate 3 times a week, more can really irritate your skin and make you break out.
- Use a spot treatment for acne before they surface, this can keep them from surfacing at all.
- Wash your face in the morning and the evening. While you are washing your face use warm water as this will open your pores and let the cleanser really do it's job. When you are finished, splash your face a couple times with really cold water, this will close your pores and keep dirt and bacteria from getting in, I also recommend you doing this before you put your makeup on.
- Treat yourself to some kind of facial every couple of months. Ulta usually has really good deals on some good ones every once in a while, so keep checking on that.
- Don't over tan...I know this is said excessively, but skin cancer really is a bad thing! This being said, do not completely avoid the sun!! Vitamin D is good for you:) just don't get obsessive!
- Find a foundation that really matches your skin color, it's ok to use a bronzer, but you really don't want your foundation to be darker than your skin tone, it makes it really difficult to blend in with your neck.
- Don't cake it on! Use the smallest amount of foundation possible, you can cover up all of your flaws without looking like a frosting face:)
- Wash your brushes!! If you have had a breakout recently and used your makeup brushes, the bacteria from that breakout is still on your brush and if you keep using it, you will most likely get more breakouts. Even without breakouts, I suggest washing your brushes every few weeks just to get rid of bacteria!
- Put on lotion right after you get out of the shower, it'll lock in extra moisture, waiting can make your skin dryer.
- Only wash your hair every other day, washing it every day gets rid of essential oils needed to keep your hair healthy, if your hair gets really greasy, try using a dry shampoo.
- Use a heat protectant before you use any heated styling tools, this will keep your hair from getting damaged.
- Avoid brushing your hair excessively when it is wet, your hair is vulnerable to more damage when it's wet.
- If you are trying to grow out your hair, braid it every night before you go to bed, this can help keep your hair from breaking while you are asleep.
- Brush your hair, this spreads the oils throughout your hair keeping it healthy
- Use a good primer before you put on your shadows, it helps them to look more even and stay on all day
- If you are afraid to use color on your eyes with shadows, try a liner. I like to line my bottom lashline and my waterline with brighter colors like aqua and purple. If you want to make your eyes look bigger I suggest using a white liner on your waterline
- Only use a few coats of mascara! You don't want your lashes to clump together...cuz that's just gross:)
- Keep your darker shadow on the outer 2/3 of your lid, if it's on the inner third it can make your eyes appear smaller than they actually are.
